About the event

This workshop will demonstrate how musical theater can be utilized for personal, professional, and clinical purposes. We will explore conceptual parallels in the preparation, development, and production of musical theater and psychotherapy, with thematic focus on identity, relational dynamics, emotional competence, grief, and compassion fatigue. The stage and set design will involve a conceptually adaptive and contextually responsive framework to engage complex phenomenological experiences related to clinical themes. Our “little shop of therapy” will be restocked through brief activities and case examples using evidence-informed interventions and theories that integrate key elements in musical theater. This trance-formative workshop honors those that taught us to use whatever works so that we experience change and promote braver spaces for everyone.

Dr. William Marsh is a licensed psychologist who blends extensive clinical and administrative expertise with a passion for training and supervision into innovative program development that delivers high quality care. Beyond his private practice, where he provides psychotherapy, brief evaluations for Veterans, and specialized clinical consultation, Dr. Marsh is a dedicated educator. He has served as guest faculty for the Milton H. Erickson Foundation, Couples Conference, Let’s Get Better Together Conference and is an adjunct professor at Northern Arizona and Midwestern Universities. His invited media contributions have focused on contextually adaptive programming, such as the culturally responsive social-emotional programming, specialized group therapy for functional neurological conditions, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ and braver spaces for productive change. Dr. Marsh is an active member of the APA, AzPA, and the Arizona Psychology Training Committee, bringing a clinically integrated, evidence-informed lens to his work in hospitals, schools, and community health agencies that is inherently experiential.
