About the event
The NC Society of Clinical Hypnosis is hosting its 2026 Annual Conference, titled "Is Artificial Intelligence the New One-Way Mirror? Ethically Integrating AI into Hypnotherapy," on February 7-8, 2026. The conference features leading experts in the field, including Peter Gardner, MD, Daniel Radesca, MD, Dr. Cameron Alldredge, Dr. Dana Lebo, Dr. John Hall, Christina Vair, and Courtney Hall, who will present on various aspects of this new technology and its possible use with hypnosis.
In the early days of the family therapy movement, live supervision and training was done with the help of a one-way mirror behind which was a team to help the clinician seeing the client. Those behind the mirror could observe and theorize. and then share their thoughts (often by phone!) with the clinician who was actively attending to the client. This Conference raises and answers the question of how artificial intelligence might function in a similar way.
Day One will cover topics including some of the ways Clients may already be using AI, how to write the kinds of prompts needed to get the most out of your use of AI, and a Masterclass in the use of AI. Day Two will feature presentations on the ethics of the use of AI in therapy, and a live demonstration of the use of AI in a session.
You won't want to miss this cutting edge event!

A Practical Masterclass on Using AI to Enhance Hypnotherapy
Presenter – Dr. Cameron Alldredge
This workshop will provide clinicians with practical guidance on using artificial intelligence to reduce the administrative and repetitive aspects of clinical hypnosis, allowing greater focus on the art, presence, and delivery of hypnotic interventions. Through live demonstration, attendees will learn specific, pragmatic methods for integrating AI into their clinical workflow, including staying current with relevant research, generating customized background music for sessions and recordings, creating audio recordings for at-home practice, and developing personalized tools to help clients integrate hypnotic work into daily life and lasting change. In addition to instruction on the effective use of large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot), the workshop will demonstrate the practical application of complementary AI tools such as ElevenLabs, Suno, and Notebook LM. The tone of the workshop will be informative, engaging, and experiential. Attendees will leave with concrete skills and a wide range of actionable ideas for thoughtfully incorporating AI into their own clinical practice in ways that enhance treatment.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe at least two clinically appropriate and ethically responsible applications of artificial intelligence that support the practice of clinical hypnosis by reducing administrative and preparatory tasks.
Demonstrate the practical use of at least two AI-assisted tools for professional development and the creation of hypnosis-related clinical materials.

Attachment is the New Attention: How Relational AI Impacts Users
Presenter – Courtney Hart, LCSW-C
Your clients may already be forming emotional bonds with relational AI systems including chatbots, companions, and avatars. This workshop explores how these systems are engineered to create persistent emotional bonds and how to recognize signs of problematic use in clients. Leave understanding the design tactics that trigger attachment, what maladaptive patterns look like, and clinical considerations for addressing this phenomenon in practice.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe 2 design tactics relational AI systems use to trigger and maintain user attachment.
Identify 2 clinical indicators of problematic relational AI attachment in client presentations.
DAY TWO – Saturday, February 8th, 2026
MORNING: 10:00 AM – 1:15 PM ET (including a 15-min. break)
The View from the Balcony: Critical Considerations Regarding the Ethical Practice of Clinical Hypnosis in the World of Artificial Intelligence
Presenters – Drs. John Hall and Christina Vair
As the use of artificial intelligence (AI) grows rapidly in various professional spaces, to include the clinical practice of hypnosis, careful consideration of the ethics of integrating such technologies is necessary to ensure positive outcomes for clients and clinicians alike. In this three hour facilitated discussion, the presenters will provide an overview of ethical considerations as offered by various professional organizations, as well as recent legal precedents related to AI and healthcare. Further, they will offer tangible and practical strategies for the thoughtful use of AI that supports clinicians from various backgrounds in taking a balanced, flexible approach that encourages continuous learning and adaptation as these technologies continue to evolve. Finally, participants will be offered the opportunity to explore practicable considerations within small group breakouts.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
Discuss two potential costs associated as well as known benefits of integrating AI into clinical care involving the use of hypnosis.
Identify two opportunities and challenges for professionals integrating AI into clinical care in an ever-evolving and rapidly changing environment, to include the important role of human oversight and human-technology interaction.
Ensure shared understanding of two fundamental ethical principles as a framework for governing the integration of AI into clinical practice with hypnosis.
Offer two case examples of potential ethical dilemmas to support tangible application of ethical principles in practice.
LUNCH BREAK: 1:15 PM ET – 2:15 PM ET
AFTERNOON 2: 2:15 – 5:40 PM (including two 10-min. breaks)
A Real-Time Application of Hypnosis and AI: Eliciting Creative Flow in Narrative Therapy
Presenter – Dr. Dana Lebo
As the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) continues to rise, individuals increasingly turn to these AI tools for information and ideas in their personal growth journeys. This workshop aims to explore the innovative integration of hypnosis and AI in processing trauma and other intense experiences, leading to positive shifts and changes in how people relate to these experiences. Participants will engage in a guided hypnosis session designed to elicit a flow-like state, allowing them to explore their experience on a deeper level and to craft a meaningful narrative. Following this introspective process, they will utilize LLMs—such as ChatGPT or Claude—to expand upon their insights and enhance their personal narratives. Participants will be challenged to synthesize the raw material generated during trance with AI-generated content, fostering a collaborative creative experience in real time, during the session. Time permitting, attendees will have the opportunity to envision their story's future trajectory, crafting an additional chapter that reflects their desired outcomes. This workshop will culminate in a discussion on the therapeutic applications of the ideas generated through this integrative process, examining how the synergy of hypnosis and AI can be harnessed to support healing and self-discovery. By combining hypnotic and narrative therapy techniques with cutting-edge technology, participants will leave equipped with innovative tools for personal and professional use.
After this workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe a hypnotic writing exercise designed to assist clients in processing trauma or significant experiences, including life challenges or opportunities.
Outline at least three distinct steps to elicit a creative flow-like state within clients, enabling them to access their inner narratives and derive meaning from their experiences effectively.
Identify at least two technological methods for integrating AI and large language models into therapeutic sessions, demonstrating how to use these tools to enhance and expand the client’s narrative in real time.
Develop a set of guidelines for a post-session homework assignment that leverages AI to deepen the client’s therapeutic insights and reinforce the takeaways from their experience.
