Hypnosis in Time-Limited Therapy:

Jeffrey ZeigAdvanced Training in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy learn to use trance phenomena and multilevel symbolic communication; create advanced induction procedures to bolster the process of hypnotherapy; and the use “prehypnotic” suggestions, such as seeding, to increase effectiveness.

Topic areas include habit and pain control, phobias, and hypnotherapy with the severely disturbed patient.

You also will see live demonstrations of actual hypnotherapy.

1) Given a patient, to be able to create a utilization induction specifically targeted to the complaint. 2) To describe the stages in the process of Ericksonian therapy, and provide examples of three methods for each stage. Given a patient, create a series of anecdotes to elicit resource states. 4) Given a patient with depression or anxiety, be able to indicate a hypnotherapy approach. 5) Learn to apply these methods to any form of therapy with or without formal trance. 6) Learn how to utilize trance states to achieve clinical objectives. 7) Understand the structure of resistances and how to use them. 8) Learn to harness indirect methods to achieve clinical outcomes.

Is the Founder and Director of the Milton H. Erickson Foundation, www.erickson-foundation.org. He has edited, co-edited, authored or coauthored more than 20 books on psychotherapy that appear in eleven foreign languages.

Dr. Zeig is the architect of The Evolution of Psychotherapy Conferences which are considered the most important conferences in the history of psychotherapy. Dr. Zeig is on the Editorial Board of numerous journals; is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 29, Psychotherapy); and Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

He is a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academy of Practice in Psychology of the National Academies of Practice. A psychologist in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Zeig conducts workshops internationally (40 countries).

Participants will be able to describe at least one technique useful for eliciting feelings of safety in the present and enhancing stabilization in clinical, every day life, and emergency situations 2. Participants will learn a technique to help survivors of abuse overcome despair and foreshortened sense of future, and identify future hopes and goals. 3. Participants will be able to describe at least one principle for optimizing continuation of real life behavioral changes following therapeutic trance experiences. 4. Participants will be able to describe at least one technique for assessing client’s current level of hypnotherapeutic or behavioral progress.

Ivonne DolanYvonne Dolan, MA has been a psychotherapist for 30 years, conducts training seminars therapy throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia and South America. Her work is an integration of solution-focused therapy and Ericksonian hypnotherapy and reflects a life long interest in the linguistics of hope and its practical applications to clinical and everyday life situations.

She is Past President and co-founder of the Solution-focused Brief Therapy Association (SFBTA) and a member of the European Brief Therapy Association (EBTA).

She is co-author of More than Miracles: The State of the Art of Solution-focused Brief Therapy (in press) with the late Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg and colleagues and has authored numerous articles and books including Resolving Sexual Abuse: Solution-focused therapy and Ericksonian Hypnosis for Survivors (W.W. Norton, 1991), A Path With a Heart: Ericksonian Utilization with Resistant and Chronic Clients, (Brunner-Mazel, 1985, distributed by Taylor & Francis), One Small Step: Moving Beyond Trauma and Therapy to a Life of Joy ( 2000, Excel Press, available through www. iUniverse.com.) and has co-authored Tales of Solution: A Collection of Hope Inspiring Stories ( with Insoo Kim Berg, W.W. Norton, 2001) Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: It’s Effective Use in Agency Settings (with Teri Pichot Haworth Press, 2003.

In workshop settings, Yvonne is known for her unique combination of practical techniques, detailed handouts, hands-on practice sessions and lively demonstrations, punctuated by gentle humor.
